In 2024, as a way for our supporters to get to know the people behind the power of SAU1, we will be starting a new series of blogs called Powering Our Mission. It is our hope that through these blogs you will get to know the people behind the work here at SAU1. Today, we will be getting to know SAU1 Board President Alexa Brill.
Alexa currently lives in Cumberland County Pennsylvania, and has been a part of SAU1 since 2019. Alexa says that her favorite part about working with SAU1 is, “that the staff and board members are genuinely passionate about making sure that self advocates’ voices are heard; and not only heard, but their wishes and ideas carried out the best way possible.” As a member of the board, Alexa and the other board members spend countless volunteer hours making sure that the mission and vision of SAU1 are carried out in the way that is most beneficial to the disability community.
Alexa and the board make sure that the projects that SAU1 is involved in always fit with our mission and vision statements. Alexa also makes sure to advocate for projects that SAU1 is passionate about by going in front of other organizations and speaking when necessary.
Alexa says it is important for her to be a self advocate because, “I can empower myself and others with disabilities to make their needs and wants known and to have a voice just like everyone else. This is why I became part of SAU1 and what I hope I can continue to do as part of SAU1.”
SAU1 is grateful that Alexa shares her power with us. Thank you, Alexa Brill for using your voice to speak up for those with disabilities as part of SAU1!
If you wish, you can learn more about Alexa in her full bio on our website.
