How SAU1 Uses our Power to Speak Up
July 29, 2024 | by sau1admin
As part of Disability Pride Month, we want to take the time to highlight the projects that Self Advocates United As 1 is currently working on. We have dedicated ourselves to providing free, in-person, self advocacy events and accessible resources for the disability community. Our current projects are:
- The Self Advocacy Power Network for All, or SAPNA, is a project of the PA Office of Developmental Programs (ODP). SAPNA staff, professional self advocates called Power Coaches, create and lead person-to-person events on topics important to people with disabilities. The great news is, these events are free to self advocates and their allies, and we are back in person! Come see us to find out how you can use your own power! For a full list of events go to our events page!
- SAU1 works with the central region ASERT. ASERT stands for Autism Services, Education, Resources, and Training. The aim of both the projects we do with them help create and share information important to people with disabilities.
- SAU1 also works with Temple University and their Institute on Disabilities to help make their information make sense to more people. This includes but is not limited to taking college level papers and making them make sense to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- SAU1 works with other organizations to support focus groups and use what they think to make materials, to help more people be included in all parts of community life.
If you would like to help power our mission, and help fund some of these projects you can donate to SAU1 using Givebutter.
This July, why not join us and learn how to use your power. We can't wait to see you speak up soon!!
