For this month’s Powering Our Mission blog we will be getting to know SAU1 Vice President Thalia Dafirmos. She lives in Chester County Pennsylvania.
Thalia found SAU1 in an interesting way. During the pandemic, she joined us on Zoom by accident. She loved what SAU1 was about and became more involved with the organization. One of the benefits of the pandemic was that we started doing a lot of our work online. This meant that we could reach more of the disability community, throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.
Thalia said, "I try to contribute ideas from my experience. The pandemic prompted me to join SAU1 because the meetings are now from the comfort of home. It is a great opportunity.”
Speaking up is very important to Thalia. When asked why self advocacy is so important to her, Thalia said, “aside from my disabilities, I feel it’s important. I receive support from staff or people who don’t have a disorder or disability but are capable of supporting me. I am also someone who is confident and stands up for my rights and what is best for me”.
Thalia's dedication to our mission and vision is inspiring and empowering. Thank you, Thilia for using your voice to speak up! To learn more about Thalia in her own words, you can read her bio on our website!
