Section 504 Changes - Need for Comments from Self Advocates! - Office Hours available for assistance

Hi everyone, the Department of Health and Human Services is looking to change Section 504, and update disability discrimination regulations that haven’t been changed in 40 years. They’re seeking comments from the disability community about these changes, and we need to make sure I/DD is being heard. These proposed changes would affect everything that receives federal funding, so schools, Medicaid, and more will be affected. If you have a comment about how disability discrimination in a school, doctor’s office, or other environment affected you, we want to make sure HHS hears you!

To make sure I/DD is heard, NACDD is hosting “Office Hours” on 11/3 and 11/10 at 2-3pm Eastern time. (Longer if folks show and need the time) to assist advocates with any questions about drafting or submitting their comments. Staff will be available to guide folks through the process of sending their comments to HHS.

We’re partnering with the Autism Society to get the message out regarding the need for comments, but this change can affect everyone with a disability! They have a toolkit up with more information here: https://autismsociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/504-HHS-Proposed-Rule-Toolkit.pdf

Please RSVP here to join these free advocacy assistance sessions. https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0pde2hrjsrGtzhTcJZRlBFokDMvrQltOmS

Questions? Please email me. For accommodations requests if you or someone you’re supporting would like to take part in these office hours, please email me (eberg@nacdd.org).
