Past President, and SAU1’s Lead Power Staff, Oscar Drummond smiling and holding an award from the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University presented to Self Advocates United as 1, in May 2013, for promoting best practices in Self Determination and Leadership Development.
For this Powering Our Mission blog we will be getting to know Oscar Drummond. Oscar is from Philadelphia County. He is an original, founding member of SAU1, and has worked as a Lead Power Coach and Ambassador since 2018. Before that he was the organization president for 10 years.
Not only is Oscar a founding member of our organization, but he strongly believes in the mission and vision of SAU1. Oscar says he became a part of SAU1 because, "I wanted to keep making sure people learn about speaking up and that others will listen to folks. My favorite thing about SAU1 is teaching people and letting people know about the services they can get. As part of SAU1, I hope that I can use my voice and my knowledge”.
Oscar helps power SAU1’s mission daily through his many tasks. At any given time, he could be on a call with other employees teaching them how to do their job. He could also be out in the community teaching others how to speak up for themselves and use their own power. Oscar is extremely passionate about his work and is a large part of the reason we are able to do what we do. We thank you, Oscar, for your contribution to SAU1, and for always speaking up and using your power!
