In last week's blog, we talked about National Suicide Prevention Month and preventing suicide in the disability community. This week, we want to share some resources you can use if you are going through a tough time. Before we get started, we want you to know you're not alone.
We all go through tough times. The important thing is to know how to get help if you are having a tough time and need support. The SAU1 website has a full page of resources that you can use to get the help you need. Our tough times resources page points you in the right direction whether you need mental health support, your rights are not being respected, you are worried or anxious, or having another kind of tough time.
One of our advocacy partners, ASERT also offers several resources for those in the disability community. They offer links to support groups and general information on their website, along with an e-learning platform where you can learn skills to help you through tough times.
Once again, the most important thing to remember is that you are not alone! There are people and places out there to help you. If are struggling with suicidal feelings or emotional pain, you can reach out to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. By phone, dial 988. If you use TTY, use the relay service that works for you, or dial 711 then 988. You can also text 988 or chat on their website.
You don't have to fight alone.
