October Surprise is new, big news that changes the presidential election.

Sunset is when Social Security benefits and programs will end if the government does not do something to make it last longer.

Social Security Insolvency Crisis is the time when the Social Security system will not be able to pay all benefits on time.

Debt Ceiling is how much national debt, which is how much money the federal government has borrowed to cover its costs, that the federal government can have at one time.

A Check on Congress is something one part of the government does that makes sure Congress doesn’t have too much power.

Executive Order is an order from the president telling a federal official or agency to do or not do something.

Kicking the Can Down the Road means politicians are not working on an issue.

Political Football an issue that politicians fight about and try to use to make themselves a better candidate than the other person.

If Something Goes Wrong on Election Day:

Speak up about your rights with the poll workers at the polling place.

If the poll workers don’t fix it, ask to speak to the Judge of Elections.

Sometimes, this is all you will need to do to fix something that went wrong.
