Pronouns: He, Him, His.

Hi, my name is Patrouious Achatz. I am the Assistant Coordinator for Self Advocates United as 1. I started out as a subcontractor. I was the Accessibility Liaison and Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Youth Congress through SAU1's SASE project starting in June 2019. Part of my job was to help SAU1 be inclusive to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning plus (LGBTQ+) community and to to help the Pennsylvania Youth Congress be more accessible.

It is important to me to be a self advocate because people need to know that people with disabilities can speak for themselves. As we mention in our Let's Talk about Relationships events, there are many ways to communicate.

My favorite thing about SAU1, is the fact that we educate people. I hope to continue what I am doing now, and to do more events on diversity, equity, inclusion, and intersectionality in the future.

Outside of SAU1, I am currently working on starting a non profit arts organization for LGBTQ+ youth in Westmoreland County. It will be similar to an organization called Dreams of Hope that is based in Pittsburgh. The reason behind this project is that in the Greater Pittsburgh Area, the majority of LGBTQ+ resources are in the city of Pittsburgh itself.

There are a wide range of organizations in Allegheny County that support the LGBTQ+ community and that also offer youth programs, but outside of Allegheny there are only a few, including PFLAG Greensburg, The Westmoreland LGBTQ Interfaith Network, The Westmoreland Diversity Coalition, and The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg's Gender, Sexuality Alliance. But there really isn't an organization that centers around LGBTQ+ youth between the ages of 13 and 21. Luckily, other organizations have shown an interest in getting this project off the ground.

I am also very active in the Pittsburgh UU Community Singers, and I participate in drag and variety shows. I am currently a member of the Avonworth School District's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. I also like to workout, travel, and watch TV. Right now, I am obsessed with the following shows: Bob's Burger's, 1000lb Sisters, and Return to Amish.

In 2018, I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh's Bradford Campus with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Arts and a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. Because COVID-19 really affected the arts and entertainment industry, I've been thinking about whether to go back to school to get a Bachelor's degree in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies, because that was just my minor before, or go straight for a Master's degree.

My vision for everyday life is to continue educating people, live through art, learn from others, and see more public schools work on diversity, equity, and inclusion, which is extremely important.

I have a dog named Rupaw. She is a Mountain Feist, and I named her after a drag queen named RuPaul. Yes, my dog thinks she is the queen of everything so the name fits her. She has many different nicknames, including Ru, RuRu, Rubug, and RuSki.

Since I had gastric sleeve surgery in November of 2020, I am to eat high protein, less sugar, and less carbs. So, my favorite foods are Fit Crunch Protein Bars (the snack size). They only have 3 grams of sugar in each bar, and they taste amazing. The mint chocolate chip one tastes like Girl Scout Thin Mints. The peanut butter one tastes like Reese’s. The peanut butter and jelly one tastes like a peanut butter and jelly candy bar, and the caramel peanut one tastes like Snickers.

I also really enjoy Ikea Plant Balls which are made out of a pea protein and taste like meat. I make a really delicious BBQ Beyond Loaf made with Beyond Meat. I love Two Good Yogurt, mashed cauliflower, broccoli, salads, carrots, and apples. Lastly, while these are not exactly a food, I love cookies and cream Premiere Protein Shakes and I count them as part of my meals.
