Every year on November 11th, we as a nation take time to honor our veterans by holding Veterans Day celebrations. SAU1 is proud to be a supporter of our veterans , and we thank you for the sacrifice you have made for our country. We are here not only as a nonprofit organization to help those veterans in the disability community, but also to draw attention to the sacrifices made by those in our military.
In this article, you will find a brief history of why this day was chosen to celebrate the sacrifice of our veterans, but also how nonprofit organizations like ours are trying to shine a light on what veterans and their families sacrificed to make sure that we are able to speak up as an organization.
Veterans Day was originally set to celebrate the ceasefire of World War I which is why it is celebrated on November 11th. At the time, President Wilson called it Armistice Day. The first known celebration was in 1919.
It got an official name change to Veterans Day in 1956 to honor all veterans past and present for their sacrifice to the country. The VA Department website tells us that we have parades and picnics to honor veterans. It is not just about the parade, but about honoring our veterans and how far we've come as a country. We are allowed to do our job as a nonprofit advocacy organization in large part because of the sacrifices that veterans have made over the years.
Veterans, we want to take the time to thank you and honor your sacrifice so that we can advocate for ourselves and thus be part of the community that you have fought to keep free
Thank you veterans, we salute you today and always.
