Social Security Announces New Changes: How This May Affect You
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced updates that may impact people receiving SSDI, SSI, or related benefits. Below is a summary of what’s changing and how you can protect yourself and your benefits.

1. New: Access Your Social Security Number (SSN) Online
SSA has launched a secure digital system where you can view and verify your SSN online. What This Means for You:

  • You no longer need to rely only on your physical Social Security card for verification.
  • This can make it easier to provide proof of your SSN for work, housing, or services.

Things to Watch:

  • You need internet access and a mySocialSecurity account.
  • If you don’t have internet or need help using online services, contact SSA for guidance.

  • SSA offices and phone lines will continue regular services.

If You Experience Service Delays or Issues:
You can contact your local legislator to report concerns about SSA services.

How to Contact Your Local Legislator
Legislators can assist with Social Security-related concerns through their constituent services.

  • Provide your full name, address, and a brief description of your issue with SSA services (e.g., delays, inability to get appointments, unclear communications).
  • Ask for constituent assistance with your Social Security concern.

Most legislators have offices in Washington, D.C. and in your local area. Use their website to find phone numbers and office locations.

3. Stronger Fraud Prevention Efforts
SSA is increasing efforts to stop fraud and identity theft.

How to Protect Yourself:

  • SSA will never call, email, or text you asking for
    • Your SSN
    • Bank information
    • Payment or gift cards
  • If you get a suspicious call or message, do not respond.

If SSA Contacts You by Mail:
